Your other option is to take on a working course in China. In this case you are going to complete a short intensive language course and then will be placed into work. Most of these courses do not offer you a salary for this work done full time, but you will be able to benefit from it a lot. You can learn how Chinese speak Chinese and communicate with the local people. You will also be able to learn a lot more about the Chinese culture and customs. It is important to know the habits and etiquette as well; therefore it is a great option. Not to mention that in the end of the work experience course you might be asked to stay with the company if you work hard enough on your work and language skills at the same time.
The more voluntary work you do in China the better you are going to understand the culture. You can also decide that you want to stay and the company can offer to pay your further language courses for you if you prove you are worth it and it is going to be the cheapest way in long term to study Chinese in China.
Whichever option you will choose you need to ensure you are well prepared to the changes that await you as well as the challenges. Your stay might open the door to a new life or career, but you need to be able to adjust and work hard.
